But Wait, There's More!!

Posted by Libby's Pink Vanity at 6/30/2010 06:57:00 PM 5 comments
In nail blogger world, do we not show pedicures?  Well, if not, then I'm breaking the rules for the second or so time.  I figure, almost everyone says they have ugly toes. I never have given mine any regard one way or the other.  I do know that more, regular pedicures would do my nails and feet a world of good.

However, with an additional 10 nails and lots of polishes I want to review, it's like two for the price of one!  Sort of like an infomercial....but wait, there's more!...Get your 10 fingernails today and we'll throw in a set of toenails for free.  Just pay extra shipping and handling!

This is a little mini from a Forever 21 set.  No name, so I get my chance: Piggy Pink.  OK, it only works if you do it for your toes.  My toes have a BC, 2 color coats, and a Seche Clear top coat.  That's all I need for polish to stay on my toes for days.
My poor big toe just didn't handle its last pedi well.  I have dry cuticles and I can't seem to nip away the dead skin without causing trauma.  Anyhoo, this is such a girly pink. It has some lighter pink shimmer to it.  And the big surprise, this cutie went on really nice.  Wow!  Complete coverage with just one coat.  Now, granted, I can't get my face down into my toes like I can with my hands, but it was smashing to see a color behave so well for toes.

I can't say I did this alone, though.  Libby supervises almost all toe painting. She comes around when I'm doing my toes and I yell out to her 'Stinky!!!'  Then she has to come over and smell it anyway.  Squint, squint, squint!  Well, I told her it was 'Stinky!!'
The polish is cute. The cat is soft. And my toes...still ugly.

What color do you like to put on your toes?  Do you deem your toes 'cute' or 'ugly'?  Pedi posts here?? Not??

Why A 99 Follower Giveaway?

Posted by Libby's Pink Vanity at 6/28/2010 05:32:00 PM 36 comments
The blog is fast approaching 99 followers, so it is time for a giveaway.

Of course you are asking 'Why the number 99?'

Have you ever filled up the vehicle with gas, try to top it off to an even dollar amount, then it jumps right over that amount?  You're aiming for $25 but, right then, when you think you're there, it goes over and get have $25.07.  Grrr....

So, my new game is to not aim for the rounded off dollar but to get UNDER that rounded off amount.  Say I want $25, I'll stop it off at $24.87, or $24.92.  Not attempting to rounding off.  OK, it's weird but hey, I figure for all the times I have gone over, this will even things out.

So, that's why we are landing on 99 followers.  Sort of like 99 Red Balloons. I mean, couldn't they have blown up one more?  Did they get shorted 1 balloon from the 100 count bag?  How could the blow up any balloons and they'd fly?  They would have had to use helium, right?

Yes, there are lots of questions to be answered.  However, some of them you can answer and they will earn you entries into this quirky giveaway.  But, first to the goodies:
This is what we've got: a slim wallet with a 50 cent coupon on Finger Paints polish (this was a giveaway from Sally's on purchasing 2 or 3 polishes); Crabtree & Evelyn Distillations Aromatherapy collection: Comforting Body Night Cream with relaxing lavender and rosewood essential oils (yes, taken right off the jar!); the blog trademark of pink polish, Sally Hansen's 'Fuchsia Bling Bling' from the Diamond Strength collection; Crabtree & Evelyn Distillations Aromatherapy collection: Soothing Body Lotion with relaxing lavender and rosewood essential oils; a pretty pink lip gloss from Forever 21; Sally Hansen's Salon Hand Care, Two Step Renewal System for Hands; a sample of Lush's 'Honey, I Washed the Kids' soap; Crabtree and Evelyn Naturals: Nourishing Body Butter with Cocoa Butter, Nutmeg and Cardamom; Sally Hansen's Salon Hand Care: Moisturizing Creme for Dry Sensitive Skin; and finally, Wet 'n Wild's 'Mauve Frost' from the Wild Shine collection.
Phew!!!
Libby is here showing you the trademark pink nail polish given at all giveaways:
Please note: Libby is NOT part of the giveaway.  She is the cute model presenting the Sally Hensen 'Fucshia Bling Bling' polish.

And here is one of those questions that you can answer...hey, it's going to give you an extra entry into the giveaway!!

What is the one beauty/makeup/cosmetic item that you are really, really lemming on?

Mine is this:  Clarisonic Cleansing System.

Golly, Goth Green

Posted by Libby's Pink Vanity at 6/27/2010 08:55:00 PM 5 comments
Not too long ago, I swatched Ulta's 'Underground', part of the Goth Glam mini collection.   One of the comments was from Rebecca, who has Nails Etc blog.  (Check out her avatar picture and you'll see why David Lee Roth, with Van Halen, sang that song about a teacher.) Rebecca wrote that she was looking forward to seeing the green polish from this collection.

I had inspiration!  Besides that, Rebecca is just as sweet as her photo shows too.  So, here's the green polish, named by Ulta as 'Tainted Love.'  But I named it 'Golly, Green Goth' because the print is the size of bug's eyes and printed in black ink on the bottom of the bottle.  I can't read it!  I guess Ulta didn't give a hoot if you knew the name of these polishes from this collection.  Never mind, I like naming polishes!
Outside, this gothic goody has no problem showing off its true green glitz.
Doesn't this green make you envious!!!  Almost a bug-eye green with a lot of gold glimmer.

Indoors, however, this is a true goth glamour...
I got a BC, 2 coats of Seche Clear, 2 coats of 'Tainted Love, 2 more coats of Seche with the top coat of Seche Vite.  Note: That is my 'normal' mani routine.  On occasion, I'll use Quick 'n Slick as my TC instead of Seche Vite.

And on that note, this looks like a jelly.  Maybe it is, I'm still new so hopefully I'll get an answer from a more experienced nail blogger. :)
I couldn't keep myself from stealing glances at my nails the whole time I wore this.  It appealed to me on so many levels.  Now granted, with the first coat, I wasn't sure this was going to be great.  It was streaky and laid down blotchy.  However, the 2nd coat straightened up this green like a corset on a goth princess.

This 'Golly, Green Goth' gets two crosses up, in my book.  And what's with the 'Tainted Love' name? Unless they really are referring to this 'Tainted Love' because it's a LOT scarier!

You like this green?  Which version of 'Tainted Love' to you like best?  And, you see that chick in the beginning that's fluffing up her hair in Rebecca's video? (Psst...it's at the top of the post) Yea, that WAS me...like, for sure!!!

New Polish, New Love

Posted by Libby's Pink Vanity at 6/25/2010 09:30:00 PM 5 comments
Just a few days ago, I spotted an endcap at CVS FULL of two new lines of polish!  I was more giddy than a teen on her first date.

One of the first picks was of this beauty...
This is Confetti's Moonstruck.  I wasn't all into the color until after I finished the manicure.
What an interesting color.  It's a medium gray but it has purple too.  So here's my attempt at deciphering the color: a dusty, deep lavender gray.
This photo outdoors captures the color quite honestly.

There's nothing outstanding about the application.  First coat was almost opaque, the second did the deed.  I have on BS, 2 coats of Moonstruck, 2 coats of Seche Clear and finishing with Seche Vite.

Work has been very heavy this month.  Not complaining!  Just sported this mani longer than 4 days.  And the wear was minimal.  That's the very best thing about this kiddo.  It dried ok, it applied ok and it removed off ok.  With that, I'd say it performed pretty darn good for a buck ninety-nine polish.
A nice sunny day to show off a cool color and dry cuticles.  I'm working on the cuticles with lots of Lemony Flutter and Haken Cuticle Oil.  The photo isn't showing the great shine that this one has but, my thumb does a fairly good job of it.  You can see just a bit of tip wear.  I don't usually wrap my polish though.
The sunny window does a better job of showing the shiny gloss of this creme.  Or, is it 'cream.'  No, it's 'creme.'  I'll call it a winner.

What do you think of this color?  Be honest; I don't have stock in the polish. ;) I sure didn't think it was my cup of tea but, I picked it because blogging about nail polish moves me away from my typical pinks and reds.

Are there enough photos to make the review optimal?  I'm still a newbie (and how long will it take til I'm not a newbie anymore?) so I'm just using my own interpretation of great makeup blogs I follow.  I like the ones with lots of photos.  Constructive criticism is always appreciated. :)

Oh...yea...P.S. I will be announcing a giveaway soon! I'm excited about it too!!!! :D

Overall Beauty Mineral Shadows

Posted by Libby's Pink Vanity at 6/21/2010 07:03:00 PM 4 comments
I have to say, these swatches do NOT give proper justice to the dazzle and coverage of Minerals by Overallbeauty.  I got to sample 4 eye shadows and they are AWESOME!!!!

First, I want you to know that I am a huge, huge fan of mineral makeup.  I seriously have about 200 different mineral shadows.  (Hey, you have to give me a break...they don't spoil and I've been collecting them for almost 8 years!)  And with that, I'm going to be a self-proclaimed expert customer on them.

Here's what I got...
The shadow brush is from Overall Beauty too.  It's a hypo-allergenic nylon brush that works like a charm!!  I haven't used any other shadow brush for overall shadow applications since I got this.  I did worry a bit that I had ruined it when I used my brush cleaner. But after it dried, I fluffed out the bristles and they fell right into place again.  Sweet!

That little, clear plastic bag that the shadows came in is cool too.  Not flimsy and I can use it over and over.

Here's a close up of the shadows...

Not a disappointment in any of these shades.  They sparkle, they shimmer and they perform.  If there is a downside, there is just one; there is a sticker on the top, as shown here.  And, one on the bottom of the pot too, thus, it's difficult to see what the color is in the pot.  But, the print on the top, labeling its name, is very easy to read and see.

My swatches do NOT show you the deep pigmentation and magical sparkle these colors have.  I'm really disappointed that I could not get a half way decent photo of these...
Gads!!!  My forearm looks damn scary!!  The bulge is a vein!!  I must have pumped iron on that day.  OK, moving on.  From left to right, Heart Breaker, Honeydew, Lavender, Fairy Dust.  This photo was taken indoors by the sunny window.

Same order here in the sun-shiny light...
I don't get it.  The Fairy Dust is super-duper sparkly and the others IRL were much heavier in color.  That's so sad because they are simply some of the most beautiful shadows I have in my collection.  I tried swatching them on my eyelid too but that didn't photo well, either (I'll get better at it, promise).  If you go to Overall Beauty's site, the swatch there is much better than my feeble attempt here.

The first color I swatched is 'Heart Breaker.'  It's a red brick, terra cotta color with those fab sparkles. I didn't think I'd like this color (terra cotta reminds me of when I unjoyfully lived in Santa Fe...everything was that color!), but once I got it on my eyelid, I seriously gasped.  Unlike terra cotta, this baby had shimmer...lots of it.  It applied like silk; not a bit patchy.  I did use Urban Decay Primer on my lids, and, did for all these apps.

Then there is Honeydew.  It surprised me too.  The color reminds me of vanilla ice cream.  You know the kind that has a 'vanilla' color to it?  That's this one and with that high shimmery sparkle.  I used it as a highlighter on my brow bone and got mega 'pop.'  This could be added to a body lotion and it would make a beautiful body shimmer.  I used it in some leave-in conditioner and loved the sparkles in my hair.  Just a tiny bit was used.  I didn't want to look like I had a collision with a fairy!  Perfect glide on app, here too.

The third color is Lavender.  I think of Lavender as pink's fraternal twin.  This soft purple doesn't have the sparkles as much as it has an iridescent sheen. If you are bold enough, it works as a brow bone highlighter.  I also tried it as an overlay on other shadows and it 'irridescent-ed' them.  (Making up words is perfectly normal in nail/makeup blog world, I have come to realize.)  I played around with Lavender and added a tiny speck of it to a powder blush to give it a dewy look.  I even brushed a bit onto a matte lipstick on the lips and that made a whole new color out of it. Nice!

Lastly, there is Fairy Dust.  Because I have already gone on and on, I won't list all the properties of this multi-tasker; there's just too many.  Maybe endless!  I used it as a brow bone highlighter but it didn't pull off the look I like for this.  However, it was a star when I patted it over a finished shadow look.  When you think of what color Fairy Dust could be, you're apt to be right on the money with this fun one.  Sparkly...check.  Twinkly...check.   Irridescent...triple check.  It flashes pink and lavender sparkles that are tiny so it isn't like glitter.  I did try this on with a lipstick and you need the tiniest, tiny amount.  My first use I used too much and looked like my lips where ready to be a stand-in for Lady Gaga. =o
But I loved rubbing a bit onto my leave-in hair conditioner.  (You know by now I LOVE me some...OK...a LOT of sparkle and glitter.  This blog could have so easily be called Glitter is My Crack but the exotic beauty Blix called dibs on it first.)

It's easy to see how much fun I had testing these mineral shadows out.  And having the perfect brush to use made it a winning team.  If you like your shadows to be bold, pigmented and go on easy...here's your grail.  But even if you like a more demure look, don't shy away from Overall Beauty's Minerals.  You control how much you want to apply.  Having said that, you get a lot of mileage on these shadows; a little goes a long way.

Oh, just one more thing to show you...

All these goodies where sent to me by Kim Snyder, owner of Overall Beauty.  And she sent them to me along with this handmade pouch!  Pink!!!  Cute!!!  Gosh, and it was even lined!  So, add quality in with the cuteness.  You can see the tag of Little Worm's Etsy site.  Not expensive either.

Which color do you like the best?  Do you use minerals?  And, do you have over 200 different colors?  Just how would you use that cute pouch?

All these products were sent to me by Kim at www.overallbeauty.com for my personal use and honest review.

Twinkle, Twinkle Little Stars

Posted by Libby's Pink Vanity at 6/19/2010 08:26:00 PM 3 comments
I won't bore you with any more glitter or sparkles, after this.  The next NOTD won't sparkle.  Well, I better not make that promise.  Nevertheless, I don't wish to bore you.

Here are four more sparkles on the right hand over the 'Underground' Glam Goth, an Ulta collection.
Here's the sparkle vampires lined up.  There's the unheard of 'Hidden Treasure' from Sally Hansen's Complete Salon Manicure collection (just kidding on the unheard of); 'Dive Deeper' from that same collection; an unnamed polish (oh, goody, I get to name it and I decided it was 'Pearl Jam') from NYX; and last, there is Milani's 'Just Browsing.'

Well, I didn't get a photo of the nails alone, but here they are with the bottles...
The index finger has defalcation (yep, you might have to look that one up...lol). It seems that when Hidden Treasure is on a black or near black polish, it flashes just orange.
Dive Deeper doesn't play well either.  It's too milky, but has a ton of rainbow colored glimmer.  There's a nick on that polish too.
Here's my precious.  That 'no name,' aka 'Pearl Jam' is captured quite nicely out in the evening light.  The color reminds me of a black light.  This is my fav of this post.
Just an itty, bitty pinky nail with 'Just Browsing.'  It's a nice irredecent shimmer.  Doesn't seem to have that 'oo, ah' feeling to it.  And I just noticed, it got a nick too.

My winner here is NYX.  If it helps, the number on the bottom of the bottle is: 122705.  If that means anything.  ???

Got a favorite?  Don't you think a black or near black is a surprise polish to see in the summer?  I like nice, unexpected surprised though.

Goth + Sparkle = Edward???

Posted by Libby's Pink Vanity at 6/19/2010 07:52:00 PM 3 comments
In my days of goth, you didn't have anything that sparkled.  Even your belt and jewelry didn't sparkle or, really shine.  But since the goth look has been around for decades (sorry, new generation, you are NOT the first to have this look!), I guess it would have to have some sort of new twist or morph.

The 'Underground' polish from the Glam Goth collection by Ulta, was the first dive I made into this Goth Collection.  After 4 days it looked crappy.  So last night I was playing around wondering what the next NOTD was going to be.  I'm digging in this huge mound of new polishes (you know they multiply like rabbits, don't you?) and I thought I'd try an overlay on to see what happens.
Guess what did happen....
As I mentioned, the Underground didn't look so nice.  What you are viewing here is a redo of the Underground and four different overlays.  Yea, I like to OD on things like sparkle.

Here's what they are: index finger, Milani's Cyberspace from the 3D Holographic collection; middle finger is Wet 'n Wild's Hallucinate from the Wild Shine collection; Savvy Femme Couture's Glass Slipper on the ring finger; and finally on the pinky is China Glaze's Glacier, I do not know what collection this is from but Vampy Varnish reviewed the collection here.
                                            Vampires out in the sunlight.
Cyberspace on the index finger.  Milky bluish white. Not so great of an overlay polish.  At least with dark, dark teal black.
Hallucinate on the middle finger.  Super twinkly with teal and blurple tiny glitter.
Glass Slipper is on the ring finger (seems bashful here). Dense blue glimmer.  High shiny-ness.
Glacier on the pinky.  The clearance sticker is still on the bottle from Sally's.  I get some sort of satisfaction leaving the clearance stickers on. This overlay is like the Hallucinate, just in pink/fuchsia sparkles.

And, as I said earlier, I OD on glitter, sparkly polish.  So, now you won't be surprised when you see that my next posting will be even more on the right hand!

Do you like?  Which one best?  For me, I like the Glass Slipper.  It casts a teal iridescent shimmer.  It doesn't 'look' like an overlay.

In The Teal of the Night

Posted by Libby's Pink Vanity at 6/19/2010 07:23:00 PM 3 comments
If you are going to be a follower (and I hope you continue to be!), then you are going to learn pretty quick that I'm corny.  I, actually, think I'm clever.  However, it seems to matter where the perspective comes from.

So, I came up with 'In the Teal of the Night' as a name for this polish...
What you are seeing here is one of the polishes from Ulta's Goth Collection.  Before I show you the picture of the collection, I have to explain the nails. This photo was taken after only a little over 24 hours of wear. And my cuticles are terribly craggy. I used to pick and bite the hell out of them before I started nail blogging.  They are still working on getting their 'healthy look' on.  Just had to get in that disclaimer.
This is how it came packaged.  It's just a bear to capture this in the plastic.
One thing that the photo does pick up is the very subtle shades in each of these polishes.  It's really hard to see them IRL; they all look black until you twinkle the bottle.

The Glam Goth set has 5 shades: Black Lace (dark grey creme), Tainted Love (green with green and gold microglitter), For Bitten (Black with red microglitter), After Hours (black with purple shimmer), and Underground (black with blue shimmer).  I had to snag these names and descriptions from the Ulta site.  The label on the bottom is so minuscule and in black ink.  I couldn't even see it with my readers on.

What I tried out was the Underground.  But I came up with the 'In the Teal of the Night' before I could figure out the true name.  I thought the color looked like a deep, black teal color compared to other blue polishes.  Thus, the creative endeavor at naming it.
Ick!  And I was sporting a BC, two layers of Seche Clear, 2 coats of color, another 2 coats of Seche Clear, with a finishing top of Seche Vite.  ??? Now, I liked the color, that was cool.  But it could have lasted more than just a day.  And after 4 days, I just couldn't even take a photo of that because it was just too horrid.

Quick rundown, small bottle, great collection, wicked colors, brush is 'meh,' application is 'meh.'  And how do I feel about my purchase; I am glad I have it.  Great to play with when I want to feel a bit naughty. ;)

Can you see the subtle play of the color?  How about in the photos of my nails, can you see the teal?  If you have this, do you like it?  I'm going to show you some more 'play' with it in an upcoming blog post.

My Quivery CVS New Brand of Polish Haul

Yes, I'm still beside myself with this new brand.  I went out in the evening light to see if I could capture some photos to share. Get ready, this is photo heavy.
Gosh, I need an outside table and not the hood of my husband's car! But I was disparate to share.  hee hee!
All here are 'Confetti' with the exception of the second from the left.  That is the '10 Professional.'
Moonstruck; Casablanca; Dreamdate; Dressed to the 9's; Debutante

There are some possible dupes between these two collections.  They are both made by MEGA Beauty Inc.  So I got this color from each collection to swatch and see if there is any color, wear or texture differences.
Here we have From Paris With Love; Crimson Cutie.
Now on to showcasing them each on their own...
Oops, this fun blue, Party Palace Blue, didn't make it to the first shot call. And then there is a Confetti 'My Favorite Martian,' a super shimmery green that I forgot was on my desk, and didn't even take outside for its photo op!

Well,  I loaded all the single photos first and thought I'd be able to go through each and name them and give a general idea on the color.  Rats! That didn't work out.  I did put the photos in the same order as the line up and, as I listed their names.  Luckily, they are photographing very close to their color.  Exceptions, but only slightly, are: Debutante, it's more shimmery than the photo; Dressed To The 9's, it's darker and more brown.  I'll photo these again in high sunlight tomorrow.  And I'll remember the fun green one.

You KNOW I'm going to use one of these first thing!  Which one should I choose? I wish I knew how to do a poll because that would be fun. I will be revamping the layout of the blog now that I have found someone to help me out.  That's ANOTHER thing to be looking forward to!

Off to 'Snoopy Dance!'
