Why Have a Birth-day When You Can Have a Birth-Week

Posted by Libby's Pink Vanity at 3/20/2011 10:24:00 AM 14 comments
One year, I was in a terrible place in my life right at my birthday.  I was bemoaning the fact to a friend and she gave me some great advise.  She said "Do not hinge everything you want on one day.  You need to make it a 'birthday week'."  What a great way to look at it!

This year I'm having a great birthday week as my sister, from Dallas, is visiting me.  We are seeing the sites of Orlando and Daytona Beach and, have a really great time.  Today, we are going to Downtown Disney.

And so, the purpose of my post is to let you know why I haven't done a review since Thursday.  I'll be right back soon.  :)  I have on a neon, bright, pink polish that I'm eager to share with you.  Hint: It's heavenly.  Hee hee!

These are photos of flowers that are blooming in my backyard.  I love that my birthday is on the first day of Spring!!!!

I took these in a doctor's parking lot...

I'm taking my camera with me to Disney and should get some beautiful flower photos there too.

Thanks so much for being a follower and a reader.   You all mean so much to me and make blogging not only fun but also a great community to be a part of.  :D

Wanna Get Lucky?? Secret Giveaway Winnings

Posted by Libby's Pink Vanity at 3/17/2011 09:37:00 PM 8 comments
What nail blogger doesn't like to get lucky!  And how fun would it be to win something unexpectedly.
Hosting giveaways are really fun for me.  I'd say as exciting as winning one.

Since March 1, I have been doing a green manicure as a theme for St. Patrick's Day.  I had more green polishes than I thought.  But I was secretly stashing some brand new ones to giveaway.  In fact, I had so many, I've decided to have 2 different prizes.

From March 1 to 8:30 PM today, I'm counting up all the comments left during that time and giving each one an entry.  The first drawing will allow that person to pick from which group they want to have as their prize.  Second entry drawn will automatically get the other prize.  Wanna see what the prizes are????
The first set is: Sinful Colors 'Ocean Green', China Glaze 'Four Leaf Clover', Love & Beauty 'Lime' and CoverGirl NailSlicks 'Midnight Forest' and a coarse green nail file.

Here's the second set...
Love & Beauty 'Mint', Love & Beauty 'Light Green', Love & Beauty 'Mint' (totally different color than the first one), Icing 'Daddy's Trust Fund Baby' and Love & Beauty 'Hunter Green'.

I had a total of 131 comments.  Random.org picked #48,  as the first winning number.

That is ZuZu.

The second number picked is 131.  That comment was by kittypolishnbags.

ZuZu, please respond within 48 hours with your choice of set 1 or set 2, along with your mailing info.  kittypolishnbags, I will also notify you right away and let you know you have won.  Please respond back in 48 hours with your mailing info.

All the rest of you make me feel lucky, as well, to have you as followers.

Real quick...here's today's final green mani...

Confetti's 'My Favorite Martian.'  Uber micro-glitter green.
My St. Patrick's Day pin I wore as well.

Thanks, everyone!

St. Patrick's Day Eve

Posted by Libby's Pink Vanity at 3/16/2011 09:18:00 PM 4 comments
What do you do for St. Patrick's Day Eve?  What I'm doing is getting ready to wrap up this green theme...
This isn't a new collection from Icing, as I got it early this winter.  It is part of my 'getting out of my comfort zone' project.  I'm not one to gravitate to pastels OR cremes.  So this purchase was a huge step for me.  However, truthfully, they are pretty.
These bottles are not 'full' size; they are just a bit bigger than what I'd call miniature.  I am going to show you the minty green shade.  Too bad it doesn't have a name...

Do you think 'St. Patrick's Day Eve' would be fitting?  I put on 3 coats and it turned out heavenly.  I have on one coat of Seche Clear and one coat of Nailene's 'Miracle Maker' to top it off.

Can you see that hint of shimmery frost?  That's what makes this not just another pastel creme.  It gives it some personality.
The photos show it off better as a green creme than in real life.  I almost changed my mind about swatching this thinking it was more blue than green.  And, as you can see, there is already a blue in the set.
Oh, and I'll just state, that I love this green creme shade better than I love China Glaze's 'For Audrey.'   I'm not giving up on 'For Audrey,' however.  I just need to figure out how to create something more to my liking with it.  'St. Patrick's Day Eve' doesn't need any help; I like it just as it is.

I've mentioned before that I use my home office window as my 'sunny window' spot.  For the third spring in a row, a pair of mourning doves are trying to nest right under the eaves by my window.  They will sit here and coo.  I love hearing them...
Drives Sebastian loopy.  I'll have to capture him watching from the window with his wispy tail.

I have a green button that I'm wearing tomorrow, so I'll have to snap a photo of it for you to see.  It's cute and totally me.  lol  And, what have you decided to wear as your St. Patrick's Day manicure?  Do you wear a piece of green clothing as well?

Did I Just Pull This One Out Of My....Head???

Posted by Libby's Pink Vanity at 3/15/2011 07:24:00 PM 8 comments
Here is one of those manicures that I dream about and then, actually, am able to create it...
This is Savvy's Femme Couture 'Andrea's Mint.'  I do not have a clue what that name means.  Anyone??  Bueller??
This color is truly Shamrock Green.  It's a frosty medium green that, actually, performed better than I expected.
It's only a little bit streaking and I can see, now, there is a bald spot on the upper left corner.  But, here's the look I actually dreamed about...
I'm not saying I 'invented' it, I just dreamed about it and then made it.  There is one thing missing, however...
In my dream, there was a thin line of gold between the black and the green.  I decided against doing that step since I did a half decent job with the black; I didn't want to ruin it!!
I taped off all but the side slant and used my Migi nail art pen to swipe on black.  I have several of these Migi sets and I do NOT use them enough.

Let me go back to 'Andrea's Mint' for a moment.  I used 3 coats and was surprised by the opaqueness of just 2 coats.  Savvy's have been really watery for me, in the past, so I didn't expect this one to fair any better.  In fact, I was going to pitch it in the 'get lost' pile.  Talk about a sleeper!

My Migi pen was more than a bit on the thick side.  I had to let it dry a long time before I removed the tape mark-off.  Even then, it did pull on the green polish some.  But it all dried quite nicely and I think I'll wear this one, one more day.  I wish I had some gold foil stripes; that would tidy this one up just the way I wanted it.

This look is chic, to me.  What do you think?  Would you wear something like this?  Do you have or like the Migi nail art pens?

Daddy's Trust Fund Baby by Icing

The more I try Icing's Nail Polish, the more I like them...
This one is 'Daddy's Trust Fund Baby.'  I'm not even sure I know anyone like that.  lol.  I do know that this is one lush green...
A shimmery frost with flecks of gold and green?  I have 3 coats on and it is just divine.
I have on Nailene's 'Miracle Maker' as a top coat.  Check out the bottle.  That's pretty close to looking like  a China Glaze bottle, isn't it?  Just a subtle difference.  The brush with Icing, however, is thicker than China Glaze's.
A velvety, olive color, this one is good year round.
Just a little streaky but from a casual distance, I wouldn't notice.  You can see the green and gold flecks in this photo.
My flowers are blooming and they are so dainty...
This is some kind of lilly, I suppose.  I didn't plant it; it was here when we moved in.  But they line the back of the house.

This is a color I would consider classy.  What do you think?  Do you like Icing's nail polishes?
