This Wednesday Is A Pink Sandwich

Wednesday = PINK!!! I'm in awesome company; here are others that wear pink on Wednesdays too.

 A favorite blog that I follow, Glitta Gloves, has done a couple of 'sandwich' manicures, in which she was inspired by another nail blogger.

A 'sandwich' manicure consists of a base jelly polish, a glitter polish and then, topped with the same jelly color.  Kirsten does a beautiful job. I'm inspired. Let's see what I can do...

Here are the players...

From the Bloom collection, Wet 'n Wild's 'Laughing Lilac'. Next is an awesome pink, flakie glitter from Claire's. And what I'm going to use for the sheer topcoat is Color Club's 'Incognto' from their Alter Ego collection.

First is the base color. This is the 'Laughing Lilac', which I love that name....

I only did one coat because I want to keep the sheer look. But this one is a shiner, isn't it?

Now comes the glitter with Claire's pink flakie...

 And finally, 'Incognito'...

 Meh...mine falls flat. One of two things happened. One, my base coat may have not been pale enough. Glitta Gloves uses the same polish color for the bottom and top coat. And second, my glitter is in a colored jelly base. I see that Glitta Gloves uses a bolder glitter but set in a clear polish.

On its own and not in a comparison (like me against Miss Universe!), it is just alright. But it can't even be called worthy of a now famous manicure 'sandwich.'

Kirsten, you are the best! Thanks for the continued inspiration. And I'll try to do better next time.

That's Cherry Blossom Pink Cute

Hello, dear readers!  I've been away working on family business however, here's a pink polish for Wednesday.

Boy, did I wait long enough for Wet 'N Wild's Bloom collection to show up.  I was eavesdropping reading a  discussion on this collection, on Twitter, and it was stated that someone saw them at Winn Dixie.  The second store I went to, I found them...

I didn't get the entire collection, but I did get a couple.  Here's one that I chose...

This is named 'Cherry Blossom.'  A soft, demure creme pink.  Cute name, lovely color.

This is 3 coats and it couldn't be more 'XOXO' pink.  I'd wear this for an interview, wedding, work presentation, etc.  There should be no one that would be offended by this color.  I think Duchess Kate wore this color for her wedding!!  ;)

That is not tip wear that you see; it's some shrinkage and some lack of wrapping.  I used China Glaze's 'Fast Forward' top coat to build up a shine.

I Spy...New Stuff At Walgreens Today, 3/10

I'm still looking to find the new Wet 'N Wild Spring Limited Edition makeup.  I didn't find it...yet.  But I did find this...

If you look closely at the header, you'll see that the 69 cent price doesn't start til 3/27.  I had the cashier check just in case it would ring up for that amount today.  Nope.  Gotta wait til 3/27.

I couldn't believe that this store had 2 side displays.  This one didn't have the pencils put up yet but, I did see them on the cart to be stocked.  This one was finished...

Wet 'N Wild doesn't go deep (number of a single item; in this case, only 2 deep) but they do go wide (this would be the number from left to right and all different colors, with this display).  So if you want to get a back up of that polish, you'll want to nab both from the display.  Well, in this case, they had 2 displays.  I'll be curious to see if other Walgreens have 2 as well.

It doesn't look like there are any new colors, it's just a promo they are doing with Seventeen magazine...

However, it looks like they have just about any color you'd want.

69 Cents?  Heck yea, I can get some new-to-me colors and find some fun things for a giveaway.  :)

Two New Wet 'N Wild Polish Swatches

Ahhhh...I think it's a stinkin' cute giveaway.  I picked up fun stuff that you may not splurge on yourself but would like to have.  Check it out here and enter.

Wet 'N Wild Cosmetics is one of my favorite brands.  One, they are usually easily found at Walgreens.  And two, they are affordable.

They just released a new promotion and it's selling out as fast as Wags can get them.
Here's a couple of polishes I picked up...

Slickly named after well-known television shows, this one is called 'Hannah Pinktana.'  A medium purple that has pink and purple micro-glitter.

Here in the sunny window.

Here outside.  A really nice sunny morning.

Here's the downside: this is EIGHT coats of polish!!!!  I was set on going as many as needed to get my nails to look like the color in the bottle.  S-O-U-P-Y.  Now, it wasn't gritty but it took a lot to get it to opaque. 

Other than that, I love this one.

Then I tried "Blue Wants To Be A Millionaire."

Same sparkles but in blue this time.  These sparkles look iridescent.

In the sunlight you can see how thin the polish shows up on my nails.  This is 4 coats.  I did top off with 2 coats of Seche Clear and 1 Seche Vite.  Way too thin and soupy for me.  I think I would have needed 8 coats of 'Blue Wants To Be A Millionaire' to get it to the same opaqueness as 'Hannah Pinktana.'

So, I'm more than a bit disappointed in these polishes performance.  I love the colors though.  Maybe next time I'll play with different colors underneath and see if I can find something that will make these pop.

What color and/or polish would be good to use underneath either of these?  Did you get these and what do you think about the depth of the coats?

I've Learned How to be Nouveau Cheap

Since my early days of following blogs (only last year), I have been following Nouveau Cheap.

If you check out the right-hand column here, you see that I have a button for this site.  Miss Nouveau Cheap has become a new email friend.  It is a must for me to check out her blog every day.  Reviewing a wide variety of beauty items, you are sure to learn about new products, on this blog, that you can find 'cheap' at the drugstores or mass market stores.


Something I have enjoyed for the past few months is being a 'field representative' for Miss Nouveau.  I travel around town every day for my job, so I get to stop off at Walgreens and CVS stores all the time.  I've taken it upon myself to find new makeup products and share them with Miss Nouveau.  She replies with squeals of joy.  I'm pleased.  So is she.

Here are a few of the products I have found and shared my photos with her and her blog...

It feels like a treasure hunt.  And I feel like a sleuth looking for the newest thing out there.

Oh, and something that's going on right now, she's reviewing Wet 'N Wild's newest products.  I purchased a few of them today at Walgreen's.  And they have Wet 'N Wild on sale to boot!  Thanks, Nouveau Cheap for keeping me up-to-date.

The Art of Making Your Nails Prance

Wet 'N Wild kicked some serious boo-tee with their limited Holiday collection.  Most stores were out of it before Thanksgiving.

I found this polish from the Holiday collection behind a display at the cash wrap in Walgreens this week.  So much for cosmetics department understanding sales.  That's why there is a merchandising industry.  Companies cannot rely on the associates at the store level to display their products properly.  And, as long as that is true, I'll always have clients to work for.

I found 'Prancer'.  I knew it was going to be a top coat.  And I didn't want to use stark white as a base.  So I chose an old Avon polish called 'Salma's Hope.'  The collection was to raise money for breast cancer awareness.  This was a super pale pink...

I'm not fond of this polish at all.  It makes my nails look terribly yellow.  And they are not.  But that thumb nail is gross.

Regardless, I only used this color, in hopes that, it would highlight 'Prancer.'

Large, chunky red glitter with some micro glitter spun throughout.

Sunny window hides nothing.  There's a cat hair on my pinky and my cuticles, sigh, well, I'm not biting them, hardly picking at them but nonetheless, it's all gross.  Blech.

Here with outdoor light on a cloudy day, I think 'Salma's Hope' makes my nails look dirty.  And the combination would best be suited for St. Valentine's Day.  I haven't removed this mani yet.  I bet it gives me one more thing to complain about.

Golden Opportunity

Gold has truly been a trending color this fall and now into the Holidays.  I haven't, in the past, been keen on wearing gold nail polish.  And I haven't worn gold eye shadows much before, either.  However, things tend to change when you start blogging about beauty items.  It has a tendency to stretch out one's boundaries.  And within that, you can discover new joys.

Here I am swatching 5 different gold polishes; from 4 different companies...

WooT!  I scored 5 gold medals!!  They are all gold but each has their own expression.

Just a bit out of focus to see who sparkles and who shines.

I have three coats of color on.  And I have 2 coats of Seche Clear with Olan Labs' Quick & Slick as a top coat.

As much as I love twinkly colors, I like the buffed gold color of Savvy.  The rest are just a bit too weak for me.  Cleopatra is one that I would just use as a top coat. 

Here's the look in the sunny window.  Cowardly Lyin' just can't get past the VNL.  All the golds are 'warm'.  It was fun to see them all side by side.  I think that they are all so subtle that no one noticed that there is a different gold color on each nail.

My Recipe For Awesomesauce

First, I want to tip my hat to Jacie.  She runs THREE blogs!  You've Got Nail,  You've Got Face, and the new Stuff My Kids Drew. It is from her that I learned the word 'awesomesauce.'  Not only do I think it is a cool word, but it describes Jacie perfectly.

What Jacie doesn't know is that I have picked her as one of my idols in blog world.  Her blogs are crisp, clean and inspiring.  Her photography and skills are THE best!!  Her wit is hilarious and she also talks about some sort of BBQ sauce too.   But, you'll have to check out her nail blog for more on that.

So, what is awesomesauce?  Well, awesome is for something that invokes awe.  I got my first, huge taste of this viewing the Grand Canyon for the first time.  The photos don't even come close to the beauty and AWE of this place.

And sauce...you know that makes everything taste better.  Sauce is making something good even better.

Side note:  I found this photo of  the dude you do NOT want to get behind at the airport's security check.  Not because the person is bad.  Just that he is going to hold the line up...a bit...you think??!

OK, then....shall we move onto the purpose of this post????  Hmmmm???

Awesomesauce!!!!  I made some.  Revlon has set the nail blogs afire with their release of 'Perplex.'  They just about name the company they are mimicking this color after.  Even daring you to compare the colors.  And 'Perplex' is just what the name implies...

After having a cardboard compactor's metal door fall on my head yesterday, I used that as an excuse to solidify that I did, indeed, deserve a professional manicure and pedicure.  I came home and took these photos before I lost good sunlight.  I had socks on, can you tell?  OK, just look at the color, not my sock-track feet.

Beautiful, isn't it?  I could hardly wait to find this polish.  I finally found it after a tip from
Kari of Once Bitten Blog.  She saw them at a local Ulta store.  I was there the next day!  There was one empty slot where Kari napped hers.  I walked away leaving 5 more empty slots.

I was going to apply 'Perplex' on my toes, because I knew I'd want to wear it for more than just a couple of days.  So I took in Wet 'N Wild's 'Dasher', from their Holiday collection, for my fingernails.  But, once my manicurist put one coat of 'Dasher' on, I realized that it was really a top coat.  Quick thinking (remember, I had that thump on my noggin),  I asked to have 'Perplex' on my fingernails too, with 'Dasher' on top.  A 'current' and a 'holiday' look.  Worlds of Nails Collide!!!!

'Dasher' is way, WAY more sparkly than this!!!  Fine, shimmery iridescent glitter.

My right hand is rockin' my best length and shows 'Dasher' a bit truer.

AWESOMESAUCE!!!!!

I'm still going to wear this mani for more than just a couple of days.  I'm in love....sigh.

Ooohh....what if I matted it?????  Part 2??????
