Facial Wipe Wednesday: L'oreal's Revitalift Cleansing Towelettes

Posted by Libby's Pink Vanity at 6/20/2012 07:00:00 PM 0 comments
When I review a facial wipe, I have been using it for at least 7 days straight. That way I can experiment with different types of makeup and such. That was, until I started using these...
I used L'oreal's Revitalift Radiant Smoothing Wet Cleansing Towelettes. They lasted 4 days, that's all.

Here's why; these are so heavily-perfumed that it gives me a headache. A big one! I'm not often sensitive to smells but I totally am with these. And to have that smell around my face and ON my face was not going to last.

How unassuming these look and feel. In fact, the cloth, itself, is soft. But, it only did a so-so job of removing my makeup. In all honesty, it could have been because I didn't work it long enough on my face. I hurried to get it over with.

These are the ingredients, and I have no issues, really, with them. My big thumbs down is all based on the overwhelming perfume smell. The packaging says that it has vitamin C in it. I wish they would have made it smell like oranges then. Sigh.

Have you tried L'oreal's Cleansing Towelettes?

Facial Wipe Wednesday: Pond's Morning Refresh Cleansing Towelettes

Posted by Libby's Pink Vanity at 6/13/2012 07:48:00 PM 0 comments
Today's Facial Wipe Wednesday review is on Pond's Wet Cleansing Towelettes. Actually, this was the first facial wipe I purchased to start off on my Facial Wipe Wednesday series. And, it is the perfect facial wipe for anyone to start with...
Pond's has a variety of Facial Wipes to pick from. I chose this one, 'Morning Refresh' because I thought the fragrance, Citrus and Cucumber, sounded just like it said: 'Morning Refresh'.
Pond's has been around, probably, before I was born! They are iconic in my mind for washing the face. And, happily, they haven't slacked off. These wipes are hypoallergenic, which means, that they do not contain ingredients known to cause irritations.

When I opened these towelettes to photograph them before using, I got a surprise...
Are these speckled? Is it a fancy design? Well, it did get me to say 'Hmm...cool!'
Here, you can see that the dots are actually raised on the tissue. They help exfoliate the skin while you cleanse. The yellow dots are not rough or hard. They are there for a texture to stimulate the sloughing off of the dead skin. I found it sort of neat and it didn't bother my skin at all.

I found Pond's to remove my makeup just fine. However, there is nowhere on this package that states it will or is used to remove makeup. It does say that it is infused with a citrus and cucumber scent. That was very pleasant and not an over-powering fragrance at all.

I don't use facial cloths in the morning, but I still found these towelettes left my face feeling freshly clean and soft. I didn't feel the need to rinse my face after using them and I didn't need to use a moisturizer immediately after using.

Although, I won't recommend these for removing makeup for everyone, I discovered it did a pretty good job of it. I would recommend it for cleansing when you don't necessarily need a makeup remover but, just want to wash your skin. Pond's facial towelettes can be found at Walmart, drugstores and Ulta.

Facial Wipe Wednesday: Simple For Sensitive Skin

Posted by Libby's Pink Vanity at 6/06/2012 06:37:00 PM 0 comments
In my last beauty bag that Target sent me, there was a trial size for Simple facial wipes. This, and a mention from my friend Steph, at Imperfectly Painted, gave me the idea to do this series.

Steph said that she felt like she was cheating using a facial wipe rather than a cleanser and a wash cloth. I don't think that's cheating one bit. A cheat would be to forego washing all together. My sister is the only one I personally know who feels that washing your face before bedtime is over-rated. I have always washed my face before bed.

Along with a trial size of Simple, I also got a coupon, which I promptly redeemed for a full-size version. Here are photos of my trial size...
I like these wipes. Simple is particularly made for those with sensitive skin. They have, virtually, no scent. They are effective, yet gentle. The packaging lists the wipes as safe for sensitive skin and contact lens wearers. I might add to that, for me, someone who has had Lasik eye surgery. (My eyes are more sensitive to rubbing since I had Lasik 5 years ago; particularly my right eye, since I had a 'touch up' done to it last year.)
During a trial of 7 days, I wear different types of mascara, liners, blushes, etc. to see how consistent the wipes will be, even if I'm not consistent with what types of makeup I use. It seems that the Holy Grail for facial cleansers, wipes or otherwise, is to remove waterproof mascara. I had complete success with Simple.

Simple lists that it has one vital vitamin in it: Vitamin B5. I'd say Vitamin B5 is important. It tells your skin to slough off when it dies and for the living cells to take in and hold nutrients. Simple lists that it is not drying, not greasy, and I agree. I didn't feel either of these effects.

So, quite simply, Simple is recommended by the Vanity. I recommend this to anyone that has skin irritation issues and reactions to perfumes or dyes in cosmetics. Thanks to Target and Simple for the sample in the Beauty Bag. You won yourself a customer!

Have you tried Simple? Did you know they have a complete line of skincare? http://www.simpleskincare.com.

Facial Wipe Wednesday: Yes To Cucumbers Facial Towelettes

Posted by Libby's Pink Vanity at 5/30/2012 07:26:00 PM 0 comments
The facial wipe that I have been using for the past week is Yes To Cucumbers Soothing Facial Towelettes...

While waiting in a long line at my neighborhood Ulta, I spotted these in the little shelves they have oh, so strategically placed where check out lines are formed. Actually, it was to my advantage to find these in the travel size, 10 count, rather than having to purchase a full size one. Read on to find out why.
There is no doubt that this is a product with cucumbers. The smell is delish. I thought about putting these in the refrigerator and creating a cool effect on my hot face. But, it truly isn't necessary as these wipes felt cool to my skin anyway.

Here is what the towelette looks like...
Nothing unique or fancy; just a regular towelette. I did tear the flap though. So, what I did was use all 10 wipes rather than just testing this product for 7 days.

I found that Yes To Cucumbers wasn't totally effective on removing my eye makeup. During the trial period, I make it an effort to use a variety of shadows, liners and mascaras. I had to press and wipe my eyes too hard for my liking. And, I had to swipe too many times while pressing hard, almost scrubbing my eyelashes to remove all traces of mascara. And that was on any type of mascara; regular and water-proof. It didn't seem to make a difference. I also had to scrub harder than usual on the rest of my face too. I don't have any issues with a good scrub to get clean but this was excessive for delicate facial and eye skin.

This is the reason I am glad I only got a travel version of Yes To Cucumbers Towelettes; this stung my face. I don't consider myself someone with sensitive skin so I was really surprised by this. As you can see on the packaging, it states 'soothing'. Gracious, no! It wasn't soothing to my skin one bit. The smell is soothing but my skin hurt.

So, to wrap it up, I wasn't happy with Yes To Cucumbers Facial Towelettes. Anyone that has sensitive skin, I would advise you to be very cautious trying these out. The packaging also states that it will 'cleanse, remove makeup and nourish the skin...all in one swipe!' No, it did not.

As stated, I did find these at Ulta but I have also seen them at Walgreens.

Have you tried these and what has been your experience?
