I Spy...New Stuff At Walgreens 6/28

Posted by Libby's Pink Vanity at 6/30/2011 09:28:00 PM 3 comments
Just a quickly before I spam you tomorrow with a July 4th manicure.

This week, I must have stopped off in 5 different Walgreens looking for new Wet 'n Wild stuff. Nada!! But, this display was new to me and caught my eye...
This is Revlon's new, summer edition called 'Sweety Seductive.'

There are 6 sets of polish with a matching lippy.

This is why they caught my attention...

Sparkles!!!

And, you can see just a bit from the yellow shade that these are scented.

Quite honestly, I am surprised I didn't cave. But then, I had an orthopedic doctor's appointment the following day and I didn't know if I was going to have to have surgery or not. Happy, happy!!!!...I do not! We, originally, thought I had a partially torn rotator cuff. But it is just hugely inflamed.

Anyway, back to makeup world...I can see why it may be a problem in finding some of the new Sinful Colors displays if other stores follow suit...
Maybe only one has sold out of this new collection. The display backboard is jammed up behind the shelf above it; you can't tell what collection this is. I think this is the 'Get Swirling' collection.

As a merchandiser, I think the company that sells Sinful Colors would have an issue with their product's placement. Did you know brands 'rent' spots (or, real estate, as we merchandisers call it) where their merchandise is placed? When you see a particular brand or product being displayed in a window or an endcap, that company is paying the store extra to have that exposure.

Even people in retail don't know this and thus, never realize that there is a 'purpose' for plan-o-grams. Thus, why I have a job; companies don't trust stores to put products where they are supposed to. That's what I get to do. :)

That Corset Is Going To Get Green If You Don't Wash It!

Posted by Libby's Pink Vanity at 6/28/2011 07:51:00 PM 14 comments
Very quickly, and then we will move on...My 3 prize (did I say three??) giveaway is on. Click here to enter, if you haven't already.

This polish is one of five from the Scandal line I purchased when I went to Orlando Premiere. Not only did I dig the colors but the bottles are f'in' cute!!!

This is 'Madeleine Green'. And Madeleine is wearing a bitchin' corset!

I am just as crazy for the bottle as I am with this lush, lush, lush green!
It doesn't matter if it is shady window (as above), or outdoor shade (two photos prior) or direct sunlight. This green is dynamite. It is a mossy green with gold and green micro-glitter.

Only downside: it stinks! Girl, you need to wash that skanky corset!!!!

Never mind, we'll talk about Tide laundry detergent later...

Oh, and this is NO top coat! I did use Wet 'N Wild's Base Coat but, Scandal is all on its own, otherwise. Super shiny with just 2 coats.

Snooping around to find out where to purchase these, I found only this place from Australia or New Zealand. There have been a few Aussie bloggers that have reviewed Scandal in the past too. Jacie at You've Got Nail, last year, reviewed this brand. I couldn't even find any on Ebay. So I'm very happy I picked up a few at the Show.

Admit it; you'd get buy something like this because it was in a cute bottle!!

Glitter Bombs and Sandwiches

Posted by Libby's Pink Vanity at 6/27/2011 08:47:00 PM 8 comments
Check here where I blogged about some glitter polishes to scream for. I even stopped by another Forever 21 to see if I could find any other glitters like these. But, alas...no.

I did this mani yesterday and it got bumped to the front of the blog. Clear the area...glitter bomb coming through!

I started off with a light lavender pastel shade from Color Club. The one I used is called 'Secret Rendezvous.'
I, then, layered the Forever 21 newly-acquired 'Purple/Silver' polish...

Ta da!!! I put one top coat of Color Club's 'Eco Chic' and the glitter barely feels gritty.

Then, I wondered if I could do the manicure 'sandwich'...

My middle finger looks better for the sheerness of coverage. However, it's wacked by a cuticle bed that grows boingy.

Even though 'Secret Rendezvous' is not a jelly, it's a creme, I got a lot closer to replicating the sandwich manicure. The sandwich manicure is where a base color is laid down first, then followed by a clear base glitter polish. Last, it is topped with either the base color again or a sheer polish that lets the glitter slightly show through. It works best with sheer jellies but I used a creme. And, I've seen this on other blogs as well.

At one of the stores I worked at today, one of the employees fawned over my nails. That's enough for me to not change them out for...oh, 3 days, which is long time for a nail blogger. Even longer for someone like me that doesn't care for sandwiches.

Purely Pleasures Cosmetics

Posted by Libby's Pink Vanity at 6/26/2011 08:09:00 PM 4 comments
Just have to plug the current giveaway. I have 3 prizes for a just because contest. Check it out here.

Earlier this month, I won a contest and, here is what I got...

The contest was sponsored by Purely Pleasures. I got to pick out three mineral shadows of my choice. And the elf brushes and the Lip Lush were added bonuses.

'Lip Lush' come in two choices: original and peppermint. I picked peppermint. Every single ingredient in this lip balm is one that I know.  Here's from their description:

Ingredients: (All organic)
Original & Peppermint: Soybean Oil, Sunflower Oil, Palm Oil, Olive Oil, Avocado Oil, Beeswax, Cocoa Butter, Shea Butter, Vitamin E.
Peppermint Only: Pure Peppermint Extract

My 'Lip Lush' is right in front of me, in my desk drawer, I use it that much. It is very smooth, glides on and the peppermint is as minty as a York Peppermint Patty. (However, less fattening.)

Two elf shadow brushes. These are my first elf brushes and now I know what the rave has been about. Truly, I adore these two. And, I certainly would know a thing, or hundred, about makeup brushes...

And the shadows next...

One shimmer and two mattes. I picked 3 shades that I felt would compliment each other.
I think I did quite well.
The shimmer is called 'Innocence' (#17). It is a dusty rose shade with just a hint of taupe. Works as a shadow highlighter, as I hoped. I also found it was nice as a light-handed cheek highlighter. I used a huge brush for a quick sweep over the apples of my cheeks.

This is 'Closet Freak' (#52). A smudgy, browned-out purple, this matte color is as super pigmented as the other two shades.

And last, is 'Gunmetal Gray' (#50). An incredibly pigmented matte gray, leaving no question that this is going to be bold on the eye.

This has never happened to be before: I swatched these three dry and then wet and there is hardly any difference. 'Closet Freak' and 'Gunmetal Gray' look the same. Even though they are matte, I figured foiling it would intensify the saturation. So, have a look for yourself...
Sunny day in the shade.

Direct sunlight.

Maybe that is part of its uniqueness. You don't have to foil them to get deep color. I am, with that, deeply pleased with the application. I like pigmented shadows and these were no exception. It doesn't take hardly any powder to get transference.  On the downside, the jars have no sifters so there is spillage; a bit messy.

Click on over to Purely Pleasures Cosmetics website to see the rest of their products. The prices are very competitive. The 'Lip Lush' is $2. The shadows are $4 for 3 grams. There is a monthly color that is $3 for 3 grams. A set of 4, only $15. A set of 8, just $28. The website also shows these different sets with recommended color combinations. Really helpful if someone isn't confident on picking their own combinations.

Purely Pleasures has a gamut of products that are all natural (no chemicals from a lab), not tested on animals and, mostly vegan. If you are wanting to try out beauty products from an all natural indy company, I suggest you try Purely Pleasures Cosmetics.

Today's Southern Orlando Haul

Posted by Libby's Pink Vanity at 6/23/2011 07:57:00 PM 10 comments
I woke up today feeling pretty yucky. I had a 'recovery day' scheduled from running, so I pushed myself into that. I had a feeling of a fever but I did my 'pretend' jump rope workout anyway. (I jump rope but don't have a real rope to use; just go through the movements with my arms.) I had a work project scheduled early this morning, it was already 80 degrees before 10 AM, but I went and did it anyway. I wanted to come home and be inside where it is cool. However,  I went to Ulta (it really is on the way home) and made sure I used my $9 in points and my $3.50 off $10 coupon today.

Even then, I went to a large mall do finish up more work so I wouldn't have to do it tomorrow. But I stopped in Forever 21 anyway and found some polish.

Semi-soothing, here are the goods...
Sparkle babies. From left on: Currant, Silver and Coral.

But you have to check them out up close to get a good looky...
Currant. I merlot shade with red and gold glitter.

Silver. It is a much lighter shade of silver IRL, with iridescent micro-glitter.

Coral. A pinkish coral shade with red and fuchsia micro-glitter. This one might be a jelly. I'm not sure yet.

BUT WAIT!!!!! THERE'S MORE!!!!!!

Early July 4th sparklers! From the left on: Purple/Silver, Green/Clear and Red/Black/Silver. Oh, those names got me excited!!! *rolls eyes, one way then back the other*

Silver/Purple. The base is clear with chunks of silver and a red-purple hexagon glitter.

Green/Clear. A clear base with chunky leaf green and silver hexagon glitter.

Red/Black/Silver. Again, a clear base with chunks of very red, black and silver hexagon glitter.

Any one of these three hexy glitters could make some interesting nail 'sammich' manicures.  I'm ready to experiment!

I did stop by CVS in the mall to check to see if I could find anything new. I found the new Limited Edition NYC polishes...

The coupons at the front expired on 6/1/11. Not nice. But one polish did come home with me (where at least 2 unexpired NYC coupons are)...

This is 'Gramercy Glitz.' It's a pink, almost totally clear, base with tons of baby girl pink and iridescent micro-glitter. Not exactly a new shade but the kind I tend to gravitate to.

I'm a chick from the Midwest, I had to look this one up: Gramercy Park (/ˌgræmᵊrsi ˈpɑːrk/) is a small, fenced-in private park in the borough of Manhattan in New York City, United States.
It looks lovely. I'd like to visit it. Some day. When I go to New York. Where my hubs is from. NYC, where he got his Masters. Yea...some day.

See any shades that tickle your fancy?
