Sock It To Me, Supernova

Posted by Libby's Pink Vanity at 7/27/2011 07:23:00 PM 2 comments
I'm not holding back...

I love this polish. In 1979, I had a black, sheer blouse that had rainbow threads running through it. I wore it over an off-white tube top. Go ahead, laugh. But I was rad.

The minute I laid eyes on this LA Girls Rock Star, I knew it was mine. It's called 'Supernova' and it is so swoon-worthy. In a black sheer base, there is a ton of holo bar glitter.

Knowing it was sheer, I invited 'Supernova' to be a coverup for some hot polishes. I chose these...

LA Star's 'Supernova'; Color Club's light pink creme that came in the French Affairs collection; Sally Hansen's 'Black Out'; Sonia Kashut's 'Starry Night'; Cosmetic Art's No Name Bright Blue.

I did it 'skittles' style...

On my thumb, you see 'Supernova' all by itself. Index is over Color Club's Light Pink French. Middle is Sally Hansen's 'Black Out'. On the ring finger is Sonia Kashut's 'Starry Night'. And rounding out the skittles is Cosmetic Art's Bright Blue.

There is one topcoat of China Glaze's 'Fast Forward Top Coat'.

Each beauty in her own photo...

'Supernova' alone.

Over Color Club's Light French Pink (no label on bottle).
Sally Hansen's 'Black Out'. (So far my favorite all black creme.)

Over Sonia Kashut's 'Starry Night. (Got this one on clearance at Target. Can you see the tiny silver glitter?)

Cosmetic Art's Bright Blue. (No names given on these either. I have 2 coats but as you can tell, it's showing sheer.)

I like them all, except for when 'Supernova' stands alone. That sheer black base makes the nail look dirty. But it shines over other polishes. Let's just keep 'Supernova' over to the handy side for later use.

Which one do you like the best? Or, do you have a shade you would put 'Supernova' over?

Sneak A Peek at Chic Peek by Ulta

Decadent looks, 'Chic Peek'...

As their own name brand products, I have found that Ulta does pretty darn good. This is a polish that caught my browsing eye. This is 'Chic Peek'.

I don't even know where to begin to explain this complex shade...

For starters, the photos do no justice to this mad shade. It is sparkle-palooza. Here I go at my attempt to describe the colors...

The base color is a muted, brick red color. It is filled over the top with micro-glitter that flashes shades of green, silver and burnt orange. It isn't as gritty as it may look. I have on 3 coats but no top coat. So the shine you see is its own. However, with that said, I have 3 days of wear on this puppy and I see tip wear.

'Chic Peek' is a warm shade that I wouldn't call a Summer color. I feel it is more for the cooler months. And I'd just love to have a sweater this color to wear with jeans. It just looks that warm.

Since I wore this polish for 3 days, and these photos are ones I pulled up from the Vanity's Vault, I felt it really was a chic color to wear. It doesn't demand attention; it earns it.

What colors come to mind when you think of chic?

I Spy...New Makeup Collection at Payless Shoes

There are some work 'rules' that are totally outdated. Like, wearing toe-covering shoes. That takes out sandals. Maybe in certain industries like food and construction, you need to cover your toes. And flip-flops are usually too casual for most places as well. But, come on!!! It's the 21st Century and it is FLORIDA!!!! It is perfectly fine for me to wear nice sandals for my job as it is to wear sneakers.

OK. That preludes to my need to find TOE COVERING shoes for work. I got these at Payless Shoes earlier this year. I was hoping to find the same style in a taupe color for more versatility.

This photo is courtesy of the Payless Shoe Store website.

Since I was at a mall today, I thought I'd step in (haa haa!) and see if they maybe had something like that.

No luck. But I did find they had a new beauty collection.

This line is called 'Brash.' There are other products in the line, however, I didn't want to overextend my opportunity given by the Store Manager. I did ask if I could photo the polishes, while explaining my purpose. He was very nice and granted me permission. Oh, and let me add, these polishes were only $2.99.

I didn't want a run-in like I did last week at a Beya store at another mall. At first, I was given permission but another woman came up and was unprofessional in her approach to tell me I couldn't. Stupid 'gate-keepers.' She didn't even know why they had that rule. She was just going to parrot what she had heard someone else say. And, she said she wasn't 'interested in learning.' I did manage to get some photos taken before she came up to me. However, when I came back by that store when I was finished with work at another store, she was out talking to a couple of men working at the kiosk outside her store. She must have forgot the 'rule' to stay in the store when working. Hmph. So...no free advertising for that store. They don't even have an email address to write a complaint letter to.

But, I have digressed severely....back to the happy, new makeup!

Here are some individual shots of some shades from the Brash collection...

All of them have sparkle. It just seems that 'Sergeant Khaki' is the only one that flashed his. :)

Some of the glitter line...

The top photo shows the white and black cremes. I think the point is to put the glitters over that.

And, a very sneaky photo of the roll-on powder eye shadow...

Can you sort of see the palettes in the background? They are dual foundation and concealers. There are some lip glosses and perfume in this line as well.

Even though I'm trying very hard to be on a no-buy until I get the new, fall China Glaze polishes, I allowed myself just ONE of these new shades. But after mocking up this post, I think I want to go get 'Sergeant Khaki'.

I did choose 'Gun Metal'...

This photos, in the sunlight, give a shot of the sparkle in 'Gun Metal.' I will be forth-coming with a swatch on this heavy shooter.

The colors seem to be spot on for Fall, wouldn't you say? Can you wear open toe shoes at your job?

The Perfect Season for 'Stranger Tides'

Posted by Libby's Pink Vanity at 7/24/2011 08:37:00 PM 7 comments
I'm stoked to show you this swatch...

A friend gave me the mini OPI set of the Pirates of the Caribbean collection. I love every color in it! This dusty green is named 'Stranger Tides.'

With the usual 3 coats, this murky sage color is beautifully, quietly understated.  Where a pastel can sometimes be a bit 'young', a dusty pastel says 'grown up.'

As a regular reader, you may know that I'm still working on my skills with creme polishes. While many can swatch up a creme like it is...well, cream, I battle to keep the streaks at bay and the thinning patches grounded.

Yet, I canNOT resist 'Stranger Tides.' I love this color. I love the statement it makes. There's no top coat on 'Stranger Tides.' I wanted to keep the subdued feeling it had without a bright shine.

I think this has been the best OPI collection this year. Probably only to be outdone by the upcoming 'Muppets' collection. In the meantime, this is the PERFECT season to wear 'Stranger Tides.'

Do you have a favorite shade from the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' collection?

Kleancolor's American Eyedol Shadows

Just a quick look at some Kleancolor's Baked Eyeshadows I got a couple of months back. Highly pigmented and work great wet too.

There isn't just one blue, there are 6 of them. There is not just one shade of brown, there are like 8!

These are the ones I got. $2.99 each and I call it a win. I found these at a local beauty store called 'Abradel Beauty Supply.' This is the same store I found Kleancolor crackles and Mia Secret crackles.

Since I snapped these photos sometime back, I don't have any swatches to share. I wanted to let you know these are out there and they are pretty cool for the money. And they are sure to have a color, or two, you will like.
